Abstract

Employee relations play a crucial role in determining the growth and success of organisations as it can foster employees’ commitment and productivity. However, research found that many organisations failed to provide adequate attention to employer-employee relationships causing negative impacts on the employees and employers themselves as well as the organisation as a whole. The objective of this paper is to elucidate the transition from traditional industrial relations to the emerging practice of employee relations in Malaysia. This paper will additionally explore its execution in Malaysia’s public and private sectors. The methodology employed in this conceptual paper is founded upon a comprehensive review of pertinent literature, including journal articles, conference proceedings and books as well as Malaysia’s Laws and Government Circular. By providing understanding of the concepts of employee relations and its dimensions, the present study hopes to contribute to the body of knowledge by its conceptual framework with more reliable measurement instruments for future empirical studies. Moreover, present study may facilitate future research and practice regarding emerging employee relations specifically in Malaysia’s Public Sector by promoting harmonious workplace relationships, assisting government in formulating future plans and policies regarding employee relations, as well as supporting effective public sector management in managing its industrial relations and conflicts.
